Kwasi Scott Cements Name in Record Books

The Pulaski County Cougars ended their season on a high note Friday night in Roanoke, defeating the Cave Spring Knights 48-18. Senior halfback Kwasi Scott was the star of the show, scoring 6 TD's and rushing for 235 yards, both school records. Scott also moved into 2nd on the career-rushing list with 2515 yards, and 3rd on the career-scoring list with 248 points.

For the first time since 1990, the Cougars will not participate in the playoffs. This year's schedule threw the young team into the fire early. The 2nd and 3rd opponents (Amherst Co. and Salem) combined to go 20-0. Amherst recorded 5 shutouts, outscoring their opponents 411-48, while Salem recorded 6 shutouts, and outscored their opponents 384-45. With the exception of the William Fleming game, I believe this year's team improved every game, and I'm sure the coaches and players wish they could play that game over.

Playoff Preview

The playoffs open this week and most Cougar fans may have a little football withdrawal. For those of you who dread the end of the High School football season, there are a few games in the area this Friday that may help you cope:

In Division 4 Region III, Salem (10-0) hosts Jefferson Forest (7-3) in what very well may be Salem's toughest challenge of the year to date. Jefferson Forest lost three games to teams who combined to win 27 of their 30 games. In the other Region III semi-final, Christiansburg (8-2) will travel to Lynchburg to play the Seminole District champion Heritage Pioneers (9-1).

In Division 4 Region IV, the Lee High Generals (8-2) make their second trip of the year to Richlands (8-2). In their first meeting September 4, the Generals defeated Richlands 41 to 20. Richlands has won 7 games in a row since their September 11 loss to Powell Valley. In the other Region IV semi-final, undefeated Martinsville hosts fellow Piedmont District member Patrick County (6-4).

In Division 2 Region C, Floyd County (9-1) travels to Hogoheegee District champ John Battle (8-2). The other semi-final is the closest game of the bunch as the Giles Spartans (8-2) host Grayson County (7-3).

There are other games on the slate, check the Playoff Pairings to find a game, and go enjoy some High School Football.
