Greer Returns to be an Assistant Coach
by Jeff Wolfe
08/16/99 - A familiar smile can be seen again around Pulaski County High School. Jereme Greer has volunteered to be the assistant offensive line coach for the 1999 season. He brings back with him the experience of playing guard on the Cougars 1992 state championship team. Jereme played football at Ferrum College at several offensive line positions. He played in a few games in his freshman year but injuries kept him from playing the entire season. The next year he suffered a rotator cuff injury in summer practice, and decided not to continue with the team into the fall schedule.
Jereme has chosen to pursue Sports Medicine and will start school this fall at Radford University. He will be attending classes in the morning, finishing in time to be fully involved with his coaching responsibilities. With a degree in sports medicine Jereme will be able to pursue career opportunities with high school, college, or professional sports teams. In his education he will learn more about weight training, rehabilitation of injuries, training diets, and personal training regimens.
He has found his transition from player to coach to be an easy one. Players relate well to his friendliness and are responsive to his guidance and discipline as coach. He has a good rapport with the coaching staff from his playing days that gives him confidence in his role as coach.
Jereme likes offensive line coach Jack Turners approach to teaching linemen. "Coach Turner teaches technique first, then the plays. This way everyone has the fundamentals to play all of the positions, and that makes teaching the specific plays easier," Jereme said.
There are high hopes for this years Cougars. If they pan out, Jereme will still be grinning in December.
