Darren Thorton took a dive play 74 yards on the first play of the game to score the first and last touchdown of the night for the Hilltopper offense. David Ping’s PAT was no good, Glass 6-0 less than 30 seconds into the game.

The Cougars’ first possession ended when Travis Roop wisely evaded a sack by safely throwing the ball away. Paul Taylor’s punt netted 45 yards after a 16-yard return by Marico Bowling. Glass was penalized for clipping and would start from their own 4-yard line.

Glass could not sustain a drive. With 3rd and 12, Hilltopper QB Jon Robinson overthrew his receiver. Alan Wheeling returned Ping’s punt to the Glass 42.

The Cougars were three and out. Taylor’s punt went into the endzone, netting 15 yards as Glass would start at their own 20. After seven plays, Ping punted, and Wheeling returned it to PC’s 39. Four plays later Taylor punted a booming punt to the two-yard line where Bowling fielded the ball, returning it 98 yards for a touchdown. Casey Allen’s two point conversion run gave Glass the 14-0 lead with 1:43 remaining in the first quarter.

Wheeling returned the kickoff to the PC 46. Four plays later Taylor punted into the endzone for a touchback. The Hilltoppers were three and out.

The next Cougar drive stalled when Danny Keith fumbled at the Glass 37. Four plays later Ping punted.

Wheeling returned the punt 17 yards to the PC 35, and 4:29 remained in the half. Then the Cougar offensive line came alive, opening holes for Josh Calfee’s runs of 10, 8, 6, and 15 yards. Antoine Meadows carried for 7 to establish 1st and goal at the Glass 3. On 4th and Goal from the 2, Travis Roop ran the option left, pitching to Calfee, who beat two Hilltoppers to the corner for a touchdown. Taylor’s PAT was good, pulling Pulaski to with in 7 points as 40 seconds remained in the half.

Taylor kicked an amazing onside kick that was almost recovered by the Cougars.

Glass knelt down to end the half, sparking an additional emotional fire for the Cougars to take into the locker room.

The Cougars started the second half at their 31, but would call on Taylor to punt after three plays. Glass was called for clipping on the punt return, and would start from their own 10. Three plays later the Hilltoppers fumbled, and PC would start on the Glass 15. PC was unable to move the ball and Taylor was called on for a successful 30-yard field goal. The Cougars trailed 10-14 with 6:13 remaining in the third quarter.

Taylor kicked another touchback, and Glass was three and out. Adam Roop carried after the criss cross for 10 yards to the Glass 46. Three plays later Taylor kicked another punt touchback. The Hilltoppers were penalized for a personal foul, and would start from their own 10. Four plays later Travis Hale tipped Ping’s punt, but it got a great roll to midfield as the quarter ended.

Four plays later "Touchback" Taylor kicked into the endzone again. Three plays later second team Hilltopper QB L.B. Cabell’s pass to the left flat was intercepted by Cougar free safety Bubba Walker at the Glass 27. "The pass was thrown behind the receiver," Walker said of his first career interception.

Calfee would carry to the 14, fumbling at the end of the run, but recovering the ball himself. A Hilltopper player had the ball after the run, but the officials ruled that Calfee was down on the ground with possession after the bobble. On the next play Calfee took the ball around the left end for 13 yards, diving to hit the pylon at the corner of the endzone. Two plays later Antoine Meadows carried in for a touchdown from one yard out. Taylor’s PAT was good as the Cougars took the lead 17-14 with 8:27 remaining in the game.

Bowling returned the kickoff to the Glass 10. A clipping penalty slowed the Hilltoppers, and they would punt from their own endzone.

Four plays later Taylor would ‘coffin kick’ his punt to the Glass 4. PC seemed to have the game wrapped up, as Ping would punt to the Glass 34, with 2:26 remaining.

The Hilltoppers had hope restored as they recovered a Cougar fumble on the following play. They put together an inspired drive to the PC 46 with 52 seconds remaining. On third and 8, Robinson’s pass deep down the right sideline was perfectly defended by PC corner Jon Anderson. "The receiver seemed two feet taller than me, at least," Anderson said.

On 4th and 8, Robinson threw deep down the left sideline where PC DB Wheeling defended between Carlos Waller and the endzone, as the ball was thrown beyond them both. "I needed to step up. I was man-to-man on #2, and read my keys," Wheeling said.

"The defensive backs were on their receivers. They played aggressive at the football," said PC Coach Rod Landreth.

In the locker room, Head Coach Joel Hicks told his team, "Rejoice! Our team won! How sweet it is!"
