Micah Knight ran 45 yards around right
end for a touchdown on the second play after the opening kickoff, setting the tone for the
Eagles 39-16 rout of the Cougars. The PAT attempt by Dustin Bass was wide. 6-0 GW
with a mere 1:03 elapsed on the clock.
Terry Echols then kicked off short for GW to PCs
Brandon Hamblin, who returned the kick 8 yards to the PC 38. The Cougars got a first down
on Josh Calfees 18-yard run. On the next play, a 10-yard dash by Calfee was called
back because of a holding penalty. On 2nd-and-19 from the PC 47, the Cougars
lost a fumble at the 45.
GW scored in 6 plays, the TD coming on a 24-yard run by
Knight. Knight broke the tackles of two Cougars who seemed to have him stopped at the 15.
Echols was stopped on the attempted two-point conversion. GW 12-0 with 6:33 remaining in
the first quarter.
Hamblin received the kickoff, and fell on the ball at the
PC 35. The Cougars went 65 yards in 11 plays, converting 3 third downs. Calfee ran 16
yards for a first down on 3rd-and-10 from the PC 35. Calfee took a pitch right
for 19 yards on 2nd-and-5 from the Eagle 44. QB Alan Wheeling passed for 10
yards to Frank Cobbs for a first down on 3rd-and-7 from the GW 22. On 3rd-and-1,
Calfee took the ball in for the score from the 3. Paul Taylors PAT attempt was good.
GW 12-7 with 0:51 left in the first.
GWs Kenny Lewis ran the kickoff back from the 2 to
the GW 20. Seven plays later, Lewis ran 55 yards around left end for a TD. After a delay
of game penalty, Basss PAT attempt was wide. GW 18-7 with 9:12 remaining in the
half.
The Cougars got great field position on the ensuing
kickoff, as Antoine Meadows took the short kickoff from the PC 30 to the PC 43. On 2nd-and-9
from the PC 44, Calfee took the pitch left for 25 yards. On 3rd-and-9 from the
GW 30, Wheeling rolled left and hit Josh Bowling for 15 yards down to the GW 15. A delay
of game penalty on 2nd-and-8 proved costly for PC. The Cougars faced 4th-and-12
from the GW 17, and brought the kicking team onto the field. A penalty for unsportsmanlike
conduct because of an equipment violation was called against the Eagles. The penalty moved
the ball half the distance to the goal. Facing 4th-and-4 from the GW 8, Coach
Hicks decided to leave the kicking team on the field for the Cougars. Taylor hit a 25-yard
field goal to cut the GW lead to 18-10 with 5:17 left in the half. When asked about the
decision to kick the field goal after the penalty, Coach Hicks said, "I just wanted
to get points on the board."

Fitzwater for a gain of 15. The Cougars would get one more first down before having to
punt. Taylors kick went out of bounds at the GW 8 with 0:13 left in the half. GW QB

the PC 26. Calfee ran for 12 yards on 1st-and-10. On 3rd-and-10 from
the PC 38, Wheeling rolled left and passed for 12 yards to Josh Bowling. Four plays later
on 4th-and-16 from the PC 44, Taylor punted for the Cougars. The ball rolled
dead at the GW 4.
The Eagles got one first down. Then on 4th-and-4
from the GW 25, Bubba Walker blocked the punt and returned it for a touchdown. On the
two-point conversion attempt, Wheeling pitched right to Calfee, who was stopped short. GW
25-16 with 4:26 left in the third quarter.

from the GW 30, Motley pitched right to Knight, who ran for 28 yards. Knight gave the
Eagles another third down conversion with a 5-yard run on 3rd-and-3 from the
Cougar 35. On the final play of the third quarter, Echols ran 14 yards to the PC 16 for a
first down. After a holding penalty moved the Eagles back to the PC 24, Knight took
Motleys swing pass right down to the PC 4, but another holding penalty on the play
moved the ball back to the PC 20. On 1st-and-14 from the 20, Motley ran for 7
yards. Two plays later, Knight carried for 6 yards on 3rd-and-3. On

from the 26, Calfee ran right for 18 yards. On 3rd-and-5 from the PC 49,
Wheeling barely avoided a sack by throwing the ball away. On 4th down,
Taylors punt rolled into the endzone just before the coverage team could down it.
Four plays after taking possession, GWs Demetrius
Jackson broke open a trap play for 67 yards and the final TD of the night. Bass converted
the PAT. Eagles 39-16 with 5:29 remaining.
Calfee returned the kickoff 16 yards to the PC 23. After
gaining a first down, PC faced 3rd-and-3 on the PC 45. Wheeling rolled right
and passed to Cobbs for a 15-yard gain. Then PC added another first down. Then with 4th-and-7
on the GW 27, Wheeling rolled right and passed to Cobbs at the 15, who broke a tackle and
went into the endzone for an apparent score. However, Wheeling had crossed the line of
scrimmage before throwing the pass. This loss-of-down penalty handed the ball back to GW.
Two plays later, Motley took a knee, and the game was over.
