TD Classic
by Ardent
Cougar
Are
you ready for some football!!
Josh
Calfee makes it 6-0 over Franklin County,
in
PC's first matchup of the day, and...
John
Hedge adds the PAT.
The
ball can be seen in the upper right hand corner.
Jeremy
Porter (No. 4) signals TD, as Calfee (top left)
goes
in for another score. PC 14-0.
Keep
an eye on Matt Roan this season.
Here,
he makes a nice catch of a good throw from Alan Wheeling.
Matt
will make noise on both sides of the ball, this year.
I
have already heard him compared to Jeff King.
Greg
Cobbs took the Criss Cross in for a score,
and
the Cougars were totally dominating the Eagles,
21-0.
The
punt rush got great pressure, and
Lucas
Nester timed it perfectly, getting the block...
...
and scooping it up, as well.
When
he was finally tackled, PC was
scant
yards away from making it 28-0,
which
Porter's TD run soon did.
The
final was Cougars 28, Eagles 6.
Wheeling
looks for a receiver against Fauquier,
PC's
second opponent.
Calfee
leaves defenders in his wake,
toughing
his way towards the goal line.
A
minute later, Josh capped off the drive...
...
with a short TD run.
The
Cougars 'trained' the Falcons,
pitching
a 19-0 shutout.
To
end the Classic, PC took on the tough
Varina
Blue Devils.
It
was a rain-plagued, defensive struggle,
remining
scoreless until very late.
Wheeling
keeps, getting key yardage on the final drive.
Sandwiched
between the two fans signaling TD,
Calfee
crosses the goal line
with
under 2 minutes to go.
For
the second week in a row,
Wheeling
seals the victory,
this
time with an interception,
making
the final score 7-0.
The
Cougar defense was not scored upon
in
6 quarters of Classic play.
PC
thus ended the 'preseason' with a
4-0
record.
Last
week's tough opponent, Graham,
opened
the 2001 season by
destroying
Bluefield 56-8 Friday night.
