Cougars vs. Cavaliers (Homecoming)
by Ardent Cougar

Alan Wheeling gets things started right, keeping for a 24-yard TD.
7-0 Cougars.

The rush got great pressure on this play, resulting in a tipped pass...

... and an interception by Lucas Nester.

Josh Calfee (right) had quite a memorable evening.
He takes the handoff from Wheeling, and 12 yards later...

... in for the score.
John Hedge's PAT made it 14-0.

When it rains, it pours! Botetourt's Jared White can't get a handle on this
bad punt snap, and...

... Nester picks it up, and takes it in.
21-0, with not quite half of the 1st Quarter played.

A 'Run-and-Shoot' offense can be entertaining, when it works.
Before the game, the Cavaliers were seen warming up
no fewer than four passers simultaneously.
Here, Botetourt QB Eric Driscoll (No. 12) shifts to a WR position.

Jeremy Porter gets in on the action...

... breaking for the sideline...

... cranking up the speed...

... going 70 yards to paydirt, making it 27-0,
with 2:24 still left in the quarter.
John Hedge's PAT for point No. 28 was his 35th consecutive,
breaking the school record of 34, held by Shayne Graham.

Calfee once again...

... and, 63 yards later..

... the quarter ended, with the
Cougars leading by a shocking 35-0!

If you blinked last Friday night, you risked missing a score!
Stopping to clean a lense before the play, I barely had time to
catch the end of Porter's 49-yard burst. PC 42-0!

The Cavaliers finally got on the board.
Jared White caught this 5 yard TD pass, making him
the all-time reception leader in Virginia High School League history.

The game was briefly stopped, as Jared received congratulations,
a hearty round of applause, and the game ball.

'Air Hicks'!
From the LB 49, Wheeling dropped back,
and tossed a rainbow for Greg Cobbs,
who reeled it in over his shoulder, while keeping stride...

... and, it was now 49-7.

PC was not done yet.
Already having an interception, and a fumble return for a TD,
Nester got what you might call the 'Hat Trick', adding to his tally
this blocked punt.  Josh Slusser picked it up and
ran it down inside the 10, giving the Cougars 1st-and-Goal.

Two plays later, Calfee (left)...

... glides in for the score.

No, your eyes do not deceive you.
This was how the scoreboard looked,
at the end of the half.

Another memorable monent:
Calfee takes it in from 35 yards out, early in the 3rd.
With Hedge's PAT for the 63rd point,
which gave him a school record 9 for the game,
the Cougars had tied a team record for scoring in a single game.

More notably, Josh's 4th touchdown on the night
put him over 4000 yards for his illustrious career.
He was also named Homecoming King, and won
Friday Football Extra's Player Of The Week award,
for his performance against Salem.
What a night for Josh Calfee!

The Cougars took it easy the rest of the game,
and Botetourt scored a pair of 4th Quarter TDs,
making the final score 63-21.
Joel Hicks won his 200th game as PC's Head Coach,
and got a traditional ice bucket "shower" from his players.

You can't ask for a better Homecoming game!
