Cougars at
Terriers
by Ardent
Cougar
Jeremy
Porter got PC off to a fast start,
breaking
it open up the middle, and...
...
50 yards later, he had given the Cougars a 7-0 lead.
On
the ensuing possession, Marcus English answered for Byrd...
...
going 65 yards, to tie it at 7-7.
At
this point, it looked like the game might be a shootout,
with
both teams lighting up the scoreboard.
After
this play, however, the Cougar D
had
the Terriers in shackles.
Porter
again, heading for his third score...
...
making it 28-7, with
2:39
left in the 1st Quarter.
Matt
Roan sacks QB Jeff Highfill.
Josh
Calfee gets his second score.
This
6-yard dash through open spaces
extended
the lead to 35-7,
early
in the 2nd.
A
mere 19 seconds later, the Cougars hit paydirt again.
Alan
Wheeling picked off this pass near the sideline,
showed
his best 'tightrope' skills, and...
42-7.
Making
tackles, sacking quarterbacks, and
blocking
for running plays, is hard work!
Here
Roan gets open and awaits his reward, a Wheeling pass.
The
completion set up...
...
Greg Cobbs, who took the criss-cross in from 32 yards out.
A
muffed snap/hold lead to a John Hedge miss on the PAT, so his
school
record ended at 46 consecutuive.
48-7,
with over half of the 2nd Quarter left to play.
Calfee
scored from 7 yards out a few minutes before the break.
It
was 55-7, as the teams headed for the lockerrooms.
The
punter for Byrd did a pretty good job of getting off kicks under the pressure.
He
certainly had many opportunities, on this night.
Roan
gets some icing on the cake!
Alan
found Matt all alone in the endzone on 4th-and-1.
The
two hooked up 3 times, for 48 yards, and this score.
With
a 62-7 lead, and the starters
having
played one series in the second half,
Coach
Hicks, as he always does, began substituting.
Roan
(taking a drink) and Wheeling (standing in front of
No.
64, Cory Bentley) relax, each having played a superb game,
as
did Chris Hardin (No. 55).
After
a Terrier score, John Harmon blocked the PAT.
62-13.
Derrick
Burks gets a few yards.
A
play or two later...
...
Derrick scored, giving (along with Jamie Steger's PAT)
the
Cougars their largest score in a game ever,
beating
the mark that was tied a week earlier.
