From The Bleachers 2003: Week Seven by Ardent Cougar
Series: First
meeting.
Region
III District Standings
This week, the Cougars begin another district campaign - in their third different district in four years. The River Ridge District is a combination of the recently disbanded Roanoke Valley District (PC, Salem, and the Cave Springs), and the old New River District of more than a quarter century ago (PC (in the forms of Dublin and Pulaski), Blacksburg, and Christiansburg). I hope the RRD will stick around. I'm tired of travelin'. A tough first half of the schedule, including three AAA teams in a row, should have PC toughened up for the most important part of the season. As has been noted before, a wild card spot in Division 4 Region III for PC, is already pretty much out of the picture. The Cougars must do what they have done 15 times before, and 11 out of the last 15 years - be a district champion. Five wins, and PC is in. Just one loss, however, and we can probably pack it in until 2004. I'm certain that Coach Turner and his charges have used the off week wisely, smoothing rough edges, getting timing down, and keeping focus and intensity. Here's
to a new beginning - the River Ridge District.

IT'S COUGAR
TIME AGAIN!!!
Hello folks, glad to be back on here again after being listed as missing in action for a while. There have been several things going on lately, and yes I was forced to miss the E.C. Glass game due to a prior commitment. Missing that game has, however, enlightened me on a few things that we'll talk about later. But lets get to the important stuff first. District play......game one of the new River Ridge District......Hidden Valley High School......lets get it on!!!! As I'm sure Ardent Cougar will point out this is the first meeting between these two teams, and I'm sure the Titans would love nothing more than to start the series off with a win over our Cougars. Coach Turner will have the kids jacked up, of this I have no doubt. The Cougars seem to pretty much need to win out to make it to post season play unless some odd things happen around the state, so every game will be crucial. As I understand it the Titans like to pass the ball, and they do it pretty well. Needless to say this will put alot of pressure on our secondary. All I can say is best of luck to Coach Turner and the rest of his coaching staff as they prepare, and lets all get out to the old Cave Spring Middle School and show the Titan fans what COUGAR PRIDE is all about!!! I want to see flags waving, cow bells ringing, horns blowing, and fans screaming!!! Now, as I said before, I think I have been enlightened on a few things this past two weeks. As I look back on the two losses the Cougars have this season I cant help but notice two things. First, at both losses the tailgating did not include a grill. At the Fleming game we decided to go with subs, and Scottcougar did baked spaghetti for the Glass game. Also, at both games I did not eat the required four hotdogs. At the Fleming game, it was a matter of "very misunderstood" hotdogs, and again I wasn't at the Glass game. So this leads me to believe that we MUST follow our new credo......"EAT TO WIN"!!!!!! So with that said, the grill will be at the Hidden Valley game this Friday night. And I don't care how bad they are, I will eat the required four hotdogs. I humbly apologize to Coach Turner and the team for failing to do my part at those two games, but I can promise that it won't be an issue again!! Now Pete Cougar had mentioned we should do something that included using some Hidden Valley Ranch dressing for this one, so I'm looking into some chicken recipes that might work, but I think some "Hidden Valley Shakers" might be good for this game. Simply take your bottle, add a few rocks or pennies or whatever, and put the lid back on. Voila......you have a shaker. Hope you like the idea Pete. OK folks, all kidding aside, its time to make some noise!! Lets get out there and show the Titans what COUGAR PRIDE is all about on Friday night!! Lets fill up those stands and let these kids know how much we appreciate all their hard work. Show up early and eat with us, or just show up and make some noise for the Cougars!! GO
COUGARS!!!! BEAT THE TITANS!!!
