Welcome Back to Cougarfootball.net!!
Hello Cougar fans, and welcome back to another season of Cougar football.
For those who don't know me, my name is Cougardave, and I LOVE THE PULASKI COUNTY COUGARS!!! I
can't think of too many things I would rather do on a Friday night in the fall than come out to Dobson Stadium, eat a little tailgate chow, eat a few hotdogs, and watch our kids play football. If you've never made it out to the parking lot before a game for one of our tailgates, let me invite you now. We get together each week before the games to eat little food, talk a little football, and just get ready to make a ton of noise. We have old timers, kids, students, and everything in between.
I've spent some time during the off season watching the Cougars get ready for its second season of River Ridge District football, and I think your all going to be happy with what I have to report. Out of 78 players who reported for the first day of practice, 76 spent the summer in the weight room with Head Coach
Jack Turner. This team will be strong, this team will be in shape. The Cougars may have some questions in how their offensive line, with several keys members of last years squad lost to graduation. Rising Senior Kasey McCambridge should be a standout, coming off of a great performance last season. The first
scrimmage this coming Friday in Bluefield should be a good test of how they will do. As usual, the Cougars have a nice looking backfield, with Senior Ryan Dean leading the team from the quarterback spot this year. Ryan has looked good in practice, and should do a fine job on both sides of the ball. Two others you should
keep your eyes on this year are Steven Cobbs and Ernie Hodge, both rising seniors who had great off seasons in the weight room.
Don't be surprised if we also see a few underclassmen make a name for themselves this season. There are several who could be standouts, only time will tell. Head Coach Jack Turner has a year under his belt now, and there are a few new faces in the coaching staff as well. One new coach that
a lot of folks will absolutely remember is Andre Eaves. Coach Eaves has been working with the defensive backs and
receivers this year. Many of you may remember him as the quarterback of our State Championship team from 1992. Coach Turner likes having former Cougars back in the program. I think
a lot of other folks do too.
So here we are. The team is into its second week of two-a-day practices. This coming Friday night the Cougars will see there first action of the year against the Bluefield Beavers. Bluefield has been, and will continue to be a contender for the playoffs and beyond. This is a quality opponent, and it should be a great test for the team. Following the Bluefield scrimmage, we have the Touchdown Classic on August 27th, but we'll talk about that next week. for now, lets get ready to head to Mitchell Stadium and get our first look at the 2004
edition of the Pride Of Pulaski County, the Pulaski County Cougar Football team. Go
Cougars!!!!
