Cougars Looking Good in Pre-season Action Howdy folks, before I start talking about the action coming up this week, I'd like to take a moment to look back at how Pulaski County performed in its first scrimmage of the season. Friends, our kids looked good! The line blocked, the runners ran, the defense tackled, and the special teams even managed to show us a little something with a blocked field goal and a couple of field goals of their own. I know last week I said that one of the key areas we needed to be concerned with was our line. I'm happy to report that while this may not be the biggest group of linemen to take the field in the cardinal, white, and gold, they are strong and they are fast. We have some kids in gold helmets that look hungry again. They got to hit somebody, and from the looks of it they liked it! Hats off to the big guys in the trenches for showing some heart out there. Keep it up!! I was also impressed with the play of our new quarterback, Ryan Dean. Ryan kept his composure while under the gun for the first time this season, and showed some things that make me excited about seeing him taking the snaps for us. While we also had several other Cougars who looked good, I have to take a second to mention an up and coming youngster who showed a lot of potential out there during the JV quarter. Number 20, Benji Poindexter looked great! I can't help but feel good seeing a young man go out there and put forth an effort like he did. Big thumbs up to Benji!! If our Cougars can continue to get better every practice and every game, then this team will be just fine. A lot of Cougar fans held their heads just a little higher after seeing the efforts our kids put forward this past Friday night. Be sure to check out the picture link, the quality of pictures will get better once I get my good camera back from the shop, but for now these will have to do. Sorry. Now let's see what we've got to look forward to this coming week. Ladies and gentlemen, it is time for the Pulaski County Touchdown Classic.
This is one of the longest running pre-season grid-o-ramas in the state, and this years field of teams promises
some great action. This years field includes Pulaski County, George Wythe, Heritage, Liberty, Magna Vista, and Northside
High Schools. Action starts at 4 pm with Magna Vista taking on Heritage. Each contest will each be two quarters. The action
will be live, with the exception of kickoffs. The Cougars will face two teams this night, first facing Heritage, and then facing
George Wythe in the final contest of the evening. There will also be a junior varsity TD Classic up on the practice field, with the
action starting around 2 pm, if you can make it to that you can see some early action before the varsity teams take the field. This
should be a great night of football, giving a person a chance to see six great teams in action in one place. Add to that the
fact that Pulaski has some great hotdogs, and there just isn't too much more a person can ask for. So come on out and check out the
2004 Edition of the Pulaski County Cougars before they start getting geared up for week one action against the Vikings of Northside |
