CougarDave Corner Fleming Preview by CougarDave
Cougars Prepare to Face William Fleming Hello Cougar Fans. We've got a great game to look forward to this week, and it should also be the one of the biggest tests we face this season. But before we get into that, lets talk a little about last week. Pulaski County High School had a great game last Friday night. The Cougars came out fired up, ran the ball well, played some awesome defense, and put away the Northside Vikings 35-0. A lot of people say "well, that's how you started out last year". While this may be true, there are a few things that you need to take into account. First, Northside has a much better team this year than they did last year. They brought back almost the entire team from last season. Pulaski may have won by the same score, but this win looked much more convincing than last years. The defense hit harder, got to the quarterback more, and it was just a much more physical game. Great job!! Lets see if we can carry that intensity over now to this week versus the Colonels. The William Fleming Colonels are coming off of an 11-3 season last year, and a trip to the State Championship game. They lost that game to Powhatan, in a close battle that ended up 6-0. Fleming has returned much of its talent from last year, and have been ranked high in most pre-season polls. Pulaski County leads the series with William Fleming 18 games to 12. Last year the Cougars made the trip to Victory Stadium with hopes of bringing off a big win, only to leave after a disappointing 6-3 loss. Fleming has won the last two years in this series, with the Cougars losing those two games by a total of 9 points. Attention Cougar Football Players: This would be a great time to break that streak. A win this week would be huge. if Pulaski County can come out and play the entire game with the type of intensity it has shown at times during the pre-season and last week, this could be a major win. Can Pulaski do it? Absolutely. Some folks will have to step up though. The seniors are going to have to take charge early. Ernie Hodge, Ryan Dean, Chad Thompson, Kasey McCambridge, and Steven Cobbs are going to have to set the example. The younger players are going to have to have a big game also. Kevin Crouse, Brent Osborne, Casey Turpin, and Austin Twine are going to have to step up. If Pulaski County is going to beat William Fleming, it will have to be a total team effort. This team has the speed, the skill, and the strength to do it. Now its time to see if they want it bad enough. One game is in the books. This game would put them that much closer to hanging that banner in the field house. A win this week would send a message to the rest of the River Ridge District that The Pulaski County Cougars are back. Let's let the kids know that we're behind them!! When they start walking down those steps, get up and make some noise!! Let's let them know they are THE PRIDE OF PULASKI COUNTY!!! GO COUGARS!!! BEAT WILLIAM FLEMING!!! Cougars
