CougarDave Corner Patrick Henry Preview by CougarDave
Cougars Prepare for Patrick Henry Hello Cougar Fans, how’s it feel knowing your favorite team IS NOT 1-1? I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think it's GREAT!!! Last Friday was a horrible night for me, and I knew it would be. A previous commitment kept me away from Dobson Stadium, and I just knew that meant it would be a great game. Fortunately, I had two good friends who were more than willing to call me every so often with game updates. My friend Nat would call at the end of each quarter and let me know what was up, and Ardent Cougar would call me at halftime and at the end of the game. Now don't get me wrong, Nat did a great job and even let me listen to the radio over the phone for a few minutes here and there, but nothing.....and I do mean NOTHING can compare to the call I got from Ardent at the end of the game. All I could hear above the roar of the crowd was "......Dave.....it's pandemonium..... crazy.....my God what a game.....I cant believe it.....20-19.....COUGARS WIN....". I may be mistaken, but I do believe he was just a little bit happy. Cougar Football players, on behalf of every player who has ever put on that gold helmet and walked down those steps, I just want to say we are proud of the way you finished that game. THAT is Cougar Football!! That was the kind of football that has built this program and made it what it is today. Congratulations on a great win!! If only this meant things would get easier...... Well folks, that's just not going to happen. This week the Cougars travel up I-81 to the sometimes not so friendly confines of Victory Stadium to face the Patrick Henry Patriots. The Cougars lead this series 20 games to 10. Pulaski County has won 6 of the last eight meetings, and have only lost to the Patriots 3 times since 1980. The Patriots are members of the AAA Western Valley District, and are currently 1-2 with a win over Princeton and losses to Jefferson Forest and Amherst County. With that all said, this is NOT a team that the Cougars can afford to take lightly. The Patriots would love nothing more than to take down the Cougars after last weeks great come from behind win. After a disappointing year last season, and a not so great start this year, a win over Pulaski County could be just what Patrick Henry needs to jump start its program. If Pulaski County wants to be successful in making it past regular season play for the first time in three years, they are going to have to play each and every game.....each and every week......just like they played last week. That bulls eye is back fellas. We are once again going to be some teams "superbowl". Keep the feeling of the finishing up early the last few years in mind as you get ready for that ride to Roanoke this week. I don't care what some Newspaper poll says about us being ranked here or there, play football with the kind of heart you played with last week and everything will work out fine. For the Cougar fans: This could be a wet one folks. I would absolutely recommend bringing rain gear based on the weather reports as of right now. Also, if you kept up with last years hotdog contest, you know that Victory Stadium got the absolute lowest ranking of any stadium all year. Unless something has changed, I wouldn't go there expecting to dine on fine cuisine. They do, however, have "dipping dots" ice cream, so I guess as long as the rain isn't coming down in buckets it'll all work out. Good luck to our Cougars this week, and like I wrote earlier, play with the kind of heart you played with last week and everything will work out just fine. GO COUGARS!!!! BEAT
