Cougars by the Numbers

Dave Speaks

Hello Cougar Fans, are you ready for a WAR?!!!

Welcome back to another week at cougarfootball.net, and this week we're looking at one of the biggest games of the season.  Who would have thought, three years or so ago, that Pulaski County’s season would hinge on whether or not they could beat the UNDEFEATED 7-0 Christiansburg Blue Demons?!  Well, as someone else has already said, "the times they are a changing".  Before we take a look at this week though, lets take a look back at last weeks action.

Pulaski County was coming off of a very disappointing loss to Hidden Valley, and the Cougars had to either come out fighting or give up any hopes of post season action.  Fortunately, the Cougars came to play last week, and won a hard fought contest against a struggling and injury riddled Blacksburg team.  Pulaski was able to move the ball well, and the defense was able to contain the Bruins passing attack.  It was good to see some fire back in the Cougars eyes, but this week will be the big test.  Now lets take a look at what the Cougars will be up against this week.

Christiansburg High School is a program on the rise, and a program with a mission.  The Demons come into this game with a perfect 7-0 record.  They have beaten some good teams along the way too.  They were able to start the season off with wins over Radford, Giles, Northside, Lord Botetourt, and William Byrd. Then they moved into district play, starting off with the team they had never defeated, the Salem Spartans. The Blue Demons finished the game with a great come from behind victory, shocking the Spartans on the same week that the Titans shocked the Cougars.  They came back last week with a 4 overtime thriller to defeat the Cave Springs Knights.  Folks, this team is for real.

Normally, this is the part where I would tell you how the cougars have done against the opponent in past games throughout the series.  I just cant see that it would matter right now.  This is not the same team that Pulaski has gone up against for the past several years.  This Blue Demon team is focused, they are excited, and they are not afraid.  This team that we're going to play on Friday night remembers what it feels like to lose to Pulaski, and they have made it clear that things will be different this year.

Pulaski County, along with the rest of the River Ridge District, has been put on notice.  There is a new power in the area.  So the big question is, can the Cougars win it?

If Pulaski County wants to win this game, it will have to play mistake free football.  It will have to contain the high octane Blue Demon offense, and they will have to score every chance they get.  One mistake may be all it takes for the Cougars.  The Cougars cannot settle for just playing as good as they did in the first five games.  They are going to have to play better.  They are going to have to come out and accept the fact that most people are expecting Christiansburg to win this one.  People like to see teams like Pulaski and Salem get beat.  People like to see the mighty fall.  Well I for one hope they are mighty disappointed this coming Friday night.

Folks, this should be a great game.  Be sure to get there early, be sure to be loud, and be sure to make enough noise to let the Cougars know that we are behind them 100%!!  This should be a large crowd, and don’t be surprised at the noise coming from the Christiansburg side of the field.  The team is not the only group that's excited.

Good luck to Pulaski County, and for those of you who haven’t made it out yet, let me invite you to come on out and get into the game!!  It's COUGAR FOOTBALL TIME!!!!

GO COUGARS!!!   BEAT THE BLUE DEMONS!!!!
