Dave Speaks

Pulaski County heads to Christiansburg this week in hopes of pulling out another River Ridge District win, but the win hungry Blue Demons are looking to put a stop to Pulaski’s five game winning streak this season, and Pulaski’s six game winning streak over Christiansburg.

Hello again Cougar Fans, and welcome back to week nine of the Cougars season and another week at Cougarfootball.net. Pulaski County had a mighty fine game last week against the Blacksburg Bruins, and they’re hoping to keep that going this week. Pulaski managed 20 first downs while only allowing the Bruins 2. The Cougars rushed the ball 67 times for 394 yards, while the Bruins rushed 11 times for -1 yards. Pulaski also went 1 for 2 passing for 39 yards, while the Bruins went 3 for 14 for 34 yards, but gave up two interceptions. Speaking of interceptions, John McDaniel is now one interception away from tying the school record for most interceptions in a season. He currently has seven. Number eight would put him in the record books tied with Steve Alley, Andre Eaves, and Alan Wheeling. Keep up the great work guys!!!

So now we look ahead to this Friday night as Pulaski travels (again) to the friendly confines of Christiansburg High School. This is one of the few games that I wouldn’t mind if it was an away game every year. I say that because the Christiansburg Booster Club makes one of the best hotdogs I’ve had, and if you know me you know I’ve had a lot of hotdogs!! The chili they use is just plain awesome. I broke my own personal record last year, eating 14 hotdogs at the PC/C'burg game.

Pulaski County leads this series six games to none, and have outscored the Blue Demons 292-51. Not a whole lot more you can say about those facts, but there is a lot more to the Christiansburg team than those number would indicate. The Blue Demons are a work in progress. Head Coach Tim Cromer has started building something special over in Christiansburg, and a lot of teams are learning that the hard way. Last year the Blue Demons took down Salem, giving the Spartans their only loss on their way to a AA State Title. In the playoffs, the Blue Demons gave Vic Hall and Gretna all they wanted, taking it down to the line in what was most likely the toughest game Gretna played all year.

They have a quarterback with tons of experience, and they have a couple of skill players that can hurt you. The Blue Demons may be one of the better 4-3 teams in the state right now. They started off River Ridge District play against Salem and Cave Spring, losing those games 33-16 and 31-17. This team can hurt you though. If the Cougars go into this game with the attitude of “Hey, its only Christiansburg….:”, then they may find out pretty fast how it feels to be back on the losing side of things at the end of the game. Pulaski County MUST PLAY EVERY GAME AT FULL SPEED!! If the Cougars let off for one play, it can be the difference between winning and losing. Either way, I’ll be there cheering for the kids in gold helmets, and I hope to see you out there too.

It looks like Friday night should be nicer weather wise, and I’m sure we all know where to get some good pre-game grub, so lets load up the cars and vans and head down the road and make some noise for our Cougars this week!!!

GO COUGARS!!!! BEAT THE BLUE DEMONS!!!!
