Players from the Pulaski County Class of 2006 continue to make their college decisions, as two graduating Cougars recently signed their Letters of Intent to play college football and continue their educations. Zach Quesenberry, a 6'2" 245 pound Z-back/defensive tackle, and Trey Parris, a 6'1" 245 pound OG/DT both recently made a written commitment to play football for the University of Virginia at Wise and become proud members of the Highland Cavalier football family in front of their families, Cougar Head Coach Jack Turner, and members of the UVA-Wise Athletics Office. This brings the total number of players from this years class who have made commitments up to three, with a few others still looking and making their final decisions. As of last check, the following players are looking at the following schools: -TE/DE Casey Turpin may walk on at JMU. He likes the school and really wants to go there, and feels that once he is there he can make a name for himself and hopefully get in the rotation. -DB John McDaniel is being actively recruited by Hampden Sydney and one or two other schools. When I spoke with him last he said he was close to making a decision. -DB Trey Angle is being actively recruited by Emory and Henry, VMI, and one or two other schools. He visited VMI the other day, and has been talking to E & H about things to figure out which school would offer the best situation for him. He expects to make a decision soon also. As more seniors make their college choices, we'll be sure to keep you updated. In other Cougar Football news, I've been getting lots of emails from former Cougar players about the upcoming season and what they are doing now. I got an email from Alan Wheeling, who wanted to remind me that Ben Davidson just finished up 4 years at the University of Richmond, where the Spiders just won the Atlantic 10 title, and advanced into the 2nd round of the NCAA playoffs. Alan is going into his 4th year at William & Mary, and was just selected as one of four team captains for the '06 season Wheeling will be a 4-yr letter winner for the Tribe. "Tater" Roan sends his regards to everyone from Utah, and says the Thunderbirds are looking good this coming season. I mistakenly typed that Ernie Hodge was going to be playing for the Ohio University "Wildcats" when I should have given the correct name, the Ohio University Bobcats!! Jimmy Harris and Charlie Bryant checked in to make sure I got that fixed, and to say that they are proud to hear that Ernie will be playing for their college. Ernie was home a few weeks back and i had a chance to speak with him. He's bigger (if you can believe that) but he still smiles all the time. I swear I think that young man is just tickled to death that he gets to spend the next four years hitting people!! I'm told he should see some pretty good playing time right off the bat, so we'll keep an eye on him. Be sure to check back in from time to time, as we will keep you updated on the graduating seniors and how the team is looking during the off season. Coach Turner and crew are doing a fine job with the boys in the weight room, and 2006 is looking to be a fine year for Cougar Football. GO COUGARS!!! |
