Cougars Prepare For Pre-Season Action
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??!! Pulaski County travels to Mitchell Stadium this coming Friday night to participate in their first action of the season against the Bluefield Beavers and the Richlands Blue Tornado. Hello Cougar Fans, and welcome back to another year here at cougarfootball.net. Things have been busy the past couple of weeks as the team started practice and gets ready for the upcoming season. The team has looked good in practice, with a couple of younger players really stepping things up in their hunt for playing time. But lets do this right…..lets go over how things have went for the Cougars since the end of last season. The Cougars have had a very productive off season in the weight room. While this is what you expect to hear about any Cougar Football team, this one has been a little bit different. I really don’t know if I’ve ever seen a group of kids work harder than the group that we’ll have putting on the gold helmets this season. There has been a change in attitude, as a person might expect after a disappointing 5-6 record last season. I think the Cougars were and are a little embarrassed. You don’t usually see Pulaski County lose the way it lost last year. It hurt. Yes, we made it back to the playoffs, but that was one of the few positive things that we can say. There is a new attitude in Cougarland. “GET IT BACK” That is the slogan for this years Cougar football team. This group is determined to do the work and put in the time to get back the Pride that they feel they lost last season. After spending the off season watching them in the weight room and on the mats, I think they are back on the right track. This team has the right combination of speed and strength to get the job done, and on top of that they have the right attitude. You could see it when they were working with the 250+ rec league kids that came up for the 1st Annual Cougar Football Basic Skills Camp a few weeks back. The coaches have that attitude as well. There hasn’t been a lot of talking going on, just a lot of hard work and a lot of sweat. That’s the way its supposed to be. So this Friday we head up Route 460 to the friendly confines of Mitchell Stadium. Our Cougars will face Richlands at approximately 5 pm, and then Bluefield at approximately 7 pm. Mitchell Stadium is a nice place to watch a football game, and I’m told they should have the concessions stands going full speed. They make a pretty mean steak sandwich. For the Cougars, this will be a “controlled” scrimmage, with the coaches on the field teaching as the session goes on. Most of the teams that will be there are going into their second scrimmages, having started a week earlier that Pulaski. I had a chance to look at Richlands last week when they scrimmaged Christiansburg, and I have to say I was impressed. They had their act together and it was obvious that the 7 on 7 tournaments that they participated in and won this summer helped them out a good deal. Bluefield is a perennial contender for the West Virginia State Championship. Combine that with the atmosphere you see anytime PC and Bluefield match up, and that should be an exciting bit of action as well. One thing to remember however is that this is a SCRIMMAGE. The Cougar coaching staff will be moving players in and out to see how they react and play throughout the entire contest. Expect to see just about everyone involved at one point or the other, as the coaches get their first chance to make an evaluation of the team against another team. So lets get this thing started off right. I’d like to see a good crowd of Cougar Fans out there Friday night. Lets show the kids that we appreciate all the work they’ve put into getting ready for the upcoming season and watch a little football. Hope to see everyone there!! GO COUGARS!!!!
