CougarDave Corner Christiansburg Preview by CougarDave
The Pulaski County Cougars prepare for game two of their River Ridge District schedule as they get ready to play host to the Christiansburg Blue Demons this week at Kenneth J. Dobson Stadium. Hello again Cougar Fans, and welcome back to week nine of the season, and another week here at cougarfootball.net. The Cougars continue to work towards success after a tough loss last week at the hands of the Blacksburg Bruins. Pulaski played a good game, but Blacksburg made some big plays starting with their first play of the fourth quarter. The Bruins may be young, but they have some talented players and look to be tough for at least the next two years. In other news around the River Ridge District, Salem continued its winning ways last week with a big win over previously undefeated Hidden Valley, and Christiansburg got a big win over a Cave Spring team that is also struggling this year. This coming week Salem travels to Cave Spring, and Blacksburg takes on Hidden Valley. I would expect Salem to get by Cave Spring pretty easily, but an upset win by the Knights is certainly not out of the question. Hidden Valley and Blacksburg should be a good game, but I’m going to give the nod to the Titans on this one. The Cougars are looking for some revenge and some respect this week. Last year, the Cougars suffered their first defeat ever at the hands of the Blue Demons…..and it was a bad one. Christiansburg won the game 49-6, with Pulaski’s only score coming late in the game well after the issue had been decided. The Blue Demons scored their last points of the game with 6:05 left in the contest. They still had their first team in until the end, and the post game celebration…..while well deserved if you’re a Blue Demon fan or player….. was one that was hard for a Cougar fan to watch. A little pay back sure would be nice. The Blue Demons come into the contest with a 4-3 overall record, and a 1-1 River Ridge District record. They have defeated Radford, Lord Botetourt, Floyd, and Cave Spring, while suffering losses to Giles, Northside, and Salem. Last week the Blue Demons put on a show taking down Cave Spring 42-6, and should come into the Cougar Den full of confidence and ready to play. Cougars, let's take it to them guys!! On another subject, I’ve had a chance to talk a good bit with Coach Turner over the past two weeks since the Sunday Southwest Times article that has the entire River Ridge District asking for details. In that article, there were a lot of questions raised about if Coach Turner had planned on stepping down as Head Coach of Pulaski County at the end of the season. After talking to Coach Turner, let me take this opportunity to clear up the rumors: COACH TURNER IS NOT PLANNING ON STEPPING DOWN. I’m awfully glad to be able to say that. There’s one more thing that I think needs to be said….on this public forum….and the people that it is directed to will know exactly who they are. As fans of Pulaski County High School…..no matter if you’re a football fan, a basketball fan, a soccer fan, or the follower of any other sport….there are certain things that you should and should not do or allow to happen around us. At away games, we tell our players to act respectfully and responsibly, because they are representatives of the Cougar Football program, Pulaski County High School, and Pulaski County. I would suggest that the same would apply to Pulaski County fans as well. There is a thin line between just plain being rude, and just plain acting ignorant. Obviously, some folks feel its ok to cross that line whenever they want too. As a fan, I am embarrassed by the actions of those certain few who decided that the visitor stands at Bill Brown Stadium were their personal pulpit to talk bad about the school, the program, the players, and the coaches. As a father, I can honestly say that if I had a son on the field that night I would have taken great offense to some of the things that were said. Those involved should be ashamed and embarrassed by the way they acted, and I’m pretty certain that any players they are related to on the team would feel the same way. To the people that I’m talking about, let me give you a personal message from the entire program and from the Pulaski County Touchdown Club: If that is the way your going to act at a game, we would all rather that you didn’t wear the colors of Pulaski County High School…..at games or anywhere else…..as it does not represent what anyone involved wants to teach the kids. Sorry, but I had to get that off my chest. So here we go folks. Pulaski County vs. Christiansburg this Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30, it should be a nice cool night that should see the concessions stands sell lots of hot chocolate and coffee. Let’s get out there and make some noise for the kids and let them know we’re still pulling for them and that we still support them!! I STILL BELIEVE IN THE COUGARS!!! GO COUGARS!!! BEAT THE BLUE DEMONS!!!
Finish strong, guys. The breaks have not went your way. All season. Hold your heads up high. We see the effort. I hope that this week, your efforts will be rewarded.
