Shelor Motor Mile Touchdown
Classic Results The Shelor Motor Mile Touchdown Classic finally got underway on Saturday morning with the Radford Bobcats and the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers facing off. The Bobcats came out of the contest with a win over the Cavs 13-6. Tazewell and Heritage took to the field next, and the Bulldogs came away with a 13-0 victory. The next contest featured the Radford Bobcats starters playing against the Amherst Lancers second team players. The Lancer second teamers took advantage of getting some playing time in front of a crowd and took home a 6-0 win over Radford. Bluefield came in from West Virginia next, and took on the Amherst Lancers. The Lancers didn't use their second teamers in this contest, and were able to get what was to that point the biggest win of the day in what was expected to be one of the better match ups of the day. The Beavers gave a good showing, but they went home with a 17-3 loss to Amherst. Tazewell and Lord Botetourt faced off next, and it looked like it might be a high scoring affair as the Cavs scored quickly to start things off. The action leveled off though, and Botetourt finished up their day with a 13-7 win. The Cougars were forced to move their only contest of the day to the upper field, as the five previous games reduced the playing surface of Joel Hicks Field to a quagmire (yes....I used a big word) of mud and loose patches of grass. In the end, the Cougars scored 26 unanswered points during the contest, while holding Heritage in check. This was made more impressive with the fact that one of the Cougars expected major contributors, Josh Lambert, was on the side of the field and not allowed to play due to an ankle injury from the previous week at Tazewell. Pulaski had ten different running backs handle the ball during the event. Jolly Martin led the way with 81 yards on 3 carries, while Trey Smith had 65 yards on one carry. Randall Cobbs added 67 yards with his 2 carries, and Cody Long put up 19 yards on 2 carries. Only one Cougar rusher had more than 3 carries, as Rick Cobb had 4 carries for 21 yards. Smith, Long, Martin, and Randall Cobbs each scored touchdowns. Pulaski had 28 offensive plays in the event, plus two field goal attempts. The ten running backs combined for 365 yards. Pulaski was also efficient in their passing game. Luke Watson was 6-8 for 68 yards, and Andrew Samuelson was 1 for 1 for 9 yards. One of the Watson incompletions was a drop that would have easily been good for another 20 yards, and one was bobbled in the endzone and would have been for another 30 and a TD. The Cougars now go into week one and begin to prepare for the Radford Bobcats on the road. Check back later this week for more information on this game. Dave's Touchdown Classic Photos
