It wasn't pretty at times, and there were times when the youth of this squad showed through, but in the end the Pulaski County Cougars won the first "Battle of the Bridge" between Pulaski and Radford on a football field in over 30 years by a final score of 19-7.

A lot of people didn't give Radford much of a chance in the contest, and they almost were proved wrong.  Up 13-0 in the first half, the Bobcats dropped two sure touchdowns that could have put the score in Radford's favor.  The Cougars got on the board first when Luke Watson hit Robert Cobbs on a 50 yard strike down the visitors side line for six.  The Jared Bralley PAT made the score 7-0.  At the 5:44 mark of the second quarter, another Cobbs got on the scoreboard as Randall Cobbs took of for 17 yards to paydirt.  The Bralley PAT was ruled no good, leaving the score at 13-0.  The score remained there until 4:47 of the third quarter.  Radford's Dontae Carter completed a perfect ten yard pass to Michael Goodman for six.  Goodman then kicked the PAT, putting the score at 13-7 and giving the Bobcat faithful new life.

The Cougars came back strong, however, and drove the ball the length of the field, eating up the clock and gaining first downs.  After a failed 3rd down conversion the Cougars sent in Matt Songer, who drilled a 24 yard field goal to put the score at 16-7 at the 11:04 mark of the 4th quarter, giving the Cougars a little breathing room.  Radford tried to go to a quick offense through the air, and were moving the ball pretty well until a fumble gave the ball back to the Cougars.  Pulaski drove the ball back down the field, but eventually sent in the second teamers to finish up the game.  After a few plays the field goal team came back out onto the field, and at the 1:39 mark Songer hit his second field goal of the night, this one good from 33 yards, giving Pulaski the final margin of victory of 19-7.

Jolly Martin led the Cougar rushing attack with 72 yards on 7 attempts.  Donte Carter had the most rushing yards for Radford, gaining 47 yards on 11 attempts.  Quarterback Luke Watson was 3 for 6 passing for 60 yards and a touchdown, while Donte Carter was 14 of 25 passing for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The Cougars will need to show some improvement in both their offensive and defensive front lines next week against Northside, who is expected to win their district this season.  The Vikings defeated what was expected to be a tough Jefferson Forest team Friday night by a healthy margin.
