Cougars Fall To Blue Demons
Game
Article Pulaski County took a 19-13 lead into the fourth quarter, but couldn't hold on as the Christiansburg Blue Demons handed the Cougars their third loss in a row to open up River Ridge District play, with a final score of 26-19. Pulaski County got on the board first when quarterback Luke Watson took the ball towards the home side of the field, then pitched it on the option to a wide open Trey Smith who raced 65 yards for a touchdown. The Blue Demons blocked the extra point, and it wouldn't be the last PAT blocked during the contest as both teams' kickers had problems getting the kicks off at times. Not long after the start of the second quarter, Christiansburg got their first score of the contest when Zach Snell rambled in from 22 yards out. The Rasnake PAT was no good, leaving the score tied at 6-6. The Cougars would get another score before halftime, when Luke Watson put up a pass to Randall Cobbs for a 57 yard touchdown strike. The Jared Bralley PAT put the score at 13-6 Pulaski as both teams headed in for halftime. Christiansburg got the kickoff to start the second half, and with a little over 8 minutes left in the quarter Ryan Fisher scored from six yards out. The Rasnake PAT tied the score again at 13-13. The Cougars put together a strong drive, and with just under two minutes left in the third quarter, Ramell Cobbs took the ball in from 2 yards out to give the Cougars the lead back. The PAT was blocked again, leaving the score at 19-13 Pulaski County. Christiansburg got the ball back and answered quickly, when Greg Lee took the ball in on a two yard run with just over 9 minutes left in the contest. Rasnake again lined up for the PAT, but this time Josh Lambert got a big hand up to knock it down, leaving the score tied for the third time. After the Cougars were forced to punt, the Blue Demons started to push the ball into Cougar territory when the ball was knocked loose and Pulaski's Josh Lambert came out of the pile with the ball to put the Cougars back in business. The Pulaski offense took the field, and began to move the ball well again. It was starting to look like Pulaski was going to at least be able to move the ball to within field goal range to try for the win, when a Cougar running back fumbled the ball back to the Blue Demons. Christiansburg milked the clock, and with 1:31 left on the clock Fisher took the ball in for his second touchdown of the night on a 5 yard run. The Rasnake PAT put the score at 26-19 in favor of the Blue Demons. Pulaski had one more shot, but on fourth and long Luke Watson was picked off and Christiansburg took two knees to end the contest. It was certainly a disappointing loss for the Cougars, who fought tooth and nail throughout the contest. No one can say the effort wasn't there, but in the end turnovers cost Pulaski County the game. The Cougars will now look to regroup as they take to the road for a two game road trip, with both games scheduled to be played at Dwight Bogle Stadium in Roanoke. First the Cougars will face the Cave Spring Knights, who fell hard to the Salem Spartans tonight 42-0. The following week the Cougars will take on the Hidden Valley Titans, who defeated the Blacksburg Bruins tonight.
