It looked like Pulaski County would get their third win of the season on Friday night, as they took a 28-21 lead into the start of the fourth quarter.  A strong rally by the Cave Spring Knights ended that hope however, and sent the Cougars home with a disappointing 42-34 loss.

The Cougars seemed to have the game well in hand when they scored their fourth touchdown of the game with 2:31 left in the third quarter, taking a solid 28-14 lead.  The Knights didn't cave in, however, and put together a fast drive to move the ball down the field and then score on a 15 yard run, bringing the Knights to within 7 points.  After a Cougar turnover, the Knights were again able to put together a strong drive, and with just over 8 minutes left in the game scored from 14 yards out to tie the game at 28 each.

The Cougars got the ball back and started putting together a drive of their own, moving the ball down the field and eating up the clock.  With the game winning drive moving in the right direction, the Knights picked off a Cougar pass to end the drive.  Two plays later, the Knights running back broke free for 63 yards to score the go ahead touchdown.  With five minutes left in the game, Pulaski again started moving the ball, only to turn it over once again.  The Knights final score of the night was a back breaker, as they took it into the endzone with just under two minutes left in the game, going up 42-28.  Pulaski did move the ball on their final drive of the game, and as time expired were able to get the ball into the endzone to bring the final score to 42-34 in favor of the Knights.

This was, as I'm sure you can imagine, a very disappointing loss for Pulaski County.  This was the third game in the last four that the Cougars have taken a lead into the fourth quarter, only to let the victory slip away in the final minutes.  There is certainly an effort there, but it just seems like the focus is sometimes not.  At the beginning of the season, it was understood that we had a young and inexperienced team, and that we had work to do.  This is game seven though, and the time has come and gone for that.

Let's hope our team can pull together for the last three games of the season, starting with next weeks contest back on the road at Dwight Bogle Field again, as the Cougars take on the Hidden Valley Titans.  The Titans defeated the Christiansburg Blue Demons tonight 28-21.  In other district action the Salem Spartans defeated Blacksburg 35-7.  Salem will travel to take on the Blue Demons next week, as the Bruins will host Cave Spring.

As a final note, I'd just like to say a special thank you to the fans who made it out to tonight's game.  In the cold and rainy night, the hardest of the Cougar Nation made their way to Bogle Stadium and did everything they could to help rally the Cougars towards a win.   I know the kids and coaches appreciate it, and in the end that's what really matters.  Hopefully the weather will be a little better next week, and we'll be able to have a little better crowd.
