CougarDave Corner Blacksburg Preview by David "CougarDave" Gravely
Week Ten: Cougars vs. Bruins Week
ten finds the Cougars back at home for the final home game of the season,
and it also finds both the Cougars and the Bruins fighting to salvage
their seasons and their respective playoff hopes. Hello
again Cougar fans, and welcome back to another week here at
cougarfootball.net. Not
much to write about this week, as I think that everything that COULD be
said has already been put out there. Pulaski County is going to
finish the regular season with a mark of either 2-8, 3-7, or 4-6.
There is only one group that can do anything about which one of those
records the team ends up with, and that is the team themselves. No
amount of pep talking on this or any other Internet site is going to
change that. The team will either walk down the steps of Kenneth J.
Dobson Stadium this Friday night and earn a win, or they won’t. If
they do earn the win Friday, then they keep their slim playoff hopes
alive. Blacksburg
finds themselves in the same boat, but for them this game may be their
last shot. Without a win over the Cougars, Blacksburg shouldn't have
a chance to catch up points wise to make the playoffs. If Pulaski
County were to fall, they would still have a shot if they were able to
find a way to beat Salem next week. Normally
I post all the information on the series history, and the wins and losses
that the opposing team has in these weekly columns. I won’t be
doing that this week, but you can feel free to take a look at the main
schedule and see all of that same information. None of
those past games matter right now, however, as both teams are going to
have to show up Friday night and fight tooth and nail if they want to find
a way to salvage some sense of pride and dignity in their season. It's
been a tough season for the Cougars, and during tough times like these you
have to find ways to make the best of things. I would like to take a
second this week to send out two special birthday wishes. On
Thursday, I'll be taking my son to his first regular season Virginia Tech
Hokie football game, where he will celebrate his 13th birthday during the
Thursday night contest. On Monday, just four days later, my daughter
will be celebrating her 17th birthday, and I'm sure a little money for
shopping will make her day on Monday as well. Both of them, Tyler
and Chelsea, have put up with my following the Cougars around in football,
basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, and just about anything else over
the years, and if they read this I just want them to know how much I
appreciate them allowing me to do what I do. Sure, they've gotten to
come to alot of good games over the years and eat alot of good pregame
meals, but sometimes I don't think they understand how much it means to me
that they are there. Things
are going to get better for Pulaski County, and when they do all the folks
that are running around right now making negative comments will fall back
into their normal routines of being on the bandwagon. During these
tough times, I would ask that you keep that in mind, and remember the ones
around us that are bad mouthing our coaches and our program. Those
same people will be back, claiming that they are the biggest fans in the
world, once the Cougars are back on the winning track. Keep their
negative comments in mind next season when the six sophomores that started
last week’s game against Hidden Valley are juniors. Keep those
comments in mind next season when our young kids have had another year in
the weight room. Pulaski
County will be back, and the Cougars will be hungry. Let's
get out and support the team this Friday night as the Cougars take Joel
Hicks Field for the last time this season. The Class of 2010 will be
recognized along with their parents prior to the game. Kickoff is
set for 7:30, let's get out and make some noise for the Cougar football
team. GO COUGARS!!! BEAT THE BRUINS!!!
