Pulaski County found their offense Friday night, but a record setting night passing by the Magna Vista Warriors keep the Cougars out of the win column for another week as they fall by a final score of 35-28.

Say what you will about the fact that Pulaski County now finds themselves going into the River Ridge District portion of their schedule without a win, but you can never say they quit.

Pulaski came out and battled their way to a 0-0 score at the end of the first quarter, something that Magna Vista was not expecting. Pulaski began pounding the ball into the heart of the Warrior defense, and with 11:01 left in the second quarter Pierce Rigney took the ball into the endzone from four yards out to give Pulaski a 7-0 lead after the Zack Akers PAT. Magna Vista didn't waste any time, and moments later (10:12 left in the second) #11 Harvey Taylor hit #3 Jalen Hayden on a screen pass that went 86 yards past the Cougar secondary for the score. Number 7 Josh Warren hit the PAT to tie the score at 7-7. With 6:13 left in the half, Taylor hit #1 Deshaun Penn for 13 yards to give Magna Vista the lead. The third quarter was again good to the Warriors, who scored two touchdowns. First Taylor hit Hayden on an 85 yard pass for a score, and then he hit Hairston for a 93 yard touchdown. Successful PAT's on both scores put the Cougars down 28-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Down but determined to fight, Pulaski scored early in the fourth quarter on a one yard run by Cobbs. After a quick defensive stop, the Cougars struck again with 8:59 left as Cobbs took the ball in from two yards out. With Akers kicking the PAT's, the score was now 28-21 Magna Vista. The Cougars held tough on defense again, and with 2:40 left in the contest, Pierce Rigney took the ball into the endzone from ten yards out. The PAT by Akers tied the score, but the Magna Vista offense had time left to work.

The final drive of the game covered 85 yards in six big plays, with Taylor taking the ball into the endzone in a leaping dive for the final score. The Cougars had one final shot to tie the contest again, but on fourth and long with time running out on the clock a Tyler Dotson pass was intercepted by Hairston to end the game with Magna Vista on top 35-28.

While a win would have certainly been huge, there were several things the Cougars could find good about the game. Pulaski rushed for 348 yards. There were 56 rushing attempts for 348 yards and 1 pass completion for 11 yards. Rigney had 191 yards on 27 carries, Cobbs had 82 yards on 8 carries, McClanahan had 47 yards on 13 carries, and Long had 27 yards on 8 carries. Magna Vista had 49 rushing yards, most of which came on the last drive of the game, and went 17 of 23 passing for 442 yards. Each team ended with 17 first downs. The Cougar defense also held Magna Vista's rushing effort to just 49 yards on 28 carries.

Check back later in the week for more on the upcoming game with Christiansburg, as the Cougars open up their River Ridge District portion of the schedule.

Heads up Cougar fans, good things are coming.
